This volume of essays in honour of Ann Chowning cannot completely mirror her varied contributions to anthropology, but it represents at least an indication of the very wide range of different scholars who appreciate and continue to build on her work. There are chapters on archaeology, social and cultural anthropology, linguistics and physical anthropology, all with a focus on the Pacific region where Ann carried out most of her research. Ann is not only a prolific scholar, she was also an inspiring teacher, as the essays of recollection in this volume evocatively attest.
