The prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in the Pacific is a critical regional priority. However, effective solutions must be Pacific-centred, ensuring that strategies are grounded in the region’s cultural, historical, and social realities.
The Pacific region, defined here as including the South Pacific Islands, Aotearoa New Zealand, and Australia, covers a vast geographic area with diverse cultures, languages, political systems, and economies. Addressing VAWG requires acknowledging the historical injustices of colonization while empowering Pacific leaders and institutions to take accountability and drive change.
To be effective, early intervention and prevention strategies must be holistic, involving a whole-of-community approach that targets the root causes of violence rather than just its symptoms. This research proposes a Pacific-centred Call to Action to amplify and strengthen efforts to prevent VAWG, ensuring sustainable and culturally responsive solutions.
