The “Pacific Girls in a Changing Climate” report, launched at COP29 by Plan International Australia and the Kiribati Climate Action Network (KiriCAN), highlights the severe hardships adolescent girls in the Pacific face due to increasingly frequent and devastating climate disasters.
Developed in partnership with Edith Cowan University and the Australian National University, the study captures the experiences of over 350 girls and young women (ages 10-18) from Tuvalu, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, and the Federated States of Micronesia—nations on the frontlines of climate change despite contributing the least to it.
The research underscores how climate change is irrevocably transforming girls’ lives as they transition to adulthood. It also presents their recommendations for safeguarding and promoting their human rights in the face of these challenges.
