Research shows that providing employment opportunities for women would effectively reduce poverty and gender inequality. Understanding the linkages between poverty and women would also mean addressing the gender imbalance of women’s participation in the labour force as compared to men, and household dynamics in terms of rights to resources, decision-making and contribution between genders. Creating employment opportunities for women past retirement age can make a critical difference in the poverty status. This report is a baseline study to understand the future of work for older women in the Pacific. The introductory sections of the report provide contextual analysis of key population trends, employment opportunities and emerging challenges. The second part highlights key findings from surveys and focus group discussions on the future of work and opportunities for older women.
