Tourism is big business in the Pacific. Our beautiful beaches, hospitality and our delicious food attract visitors from around the globe. But the profits from these businesses don’t always stay in our communities to benefit our people. They often end up in the hands of large foreign companies.
Women-led tourism operators – Jenny Leewai Bourke in Fiji, Delwin Ketsian in Arawa, Central Bouganville, and Matelita Katamotu, in the Namosi highlands of Fiji – show us how small-scale community-based tourism is possible, even with the most modest of beginnings.
