This chapter engages with the conversation on gender, history, and culture in Solomon Islands. It highlights the importance of acknowledging the role of colonisation and Christianity, and their effects in shaping narratives of personhood in Indigenous communities. It serves as a conversation starter, using historical photographs to show how development practice can unintentionally perpetuate colonial narratives that diminish the place of culture without genuinely engaging with traditional cultural practices.
