This pilot study investigates the multifaceted dimensions of women’s safety across five Pacific Island countries—Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Australia. Conducted collaboratively by researchers from ANU, USP, and APNG:WLN, the study explores physical, financial, and online safety through culturally sensitive methodologies. It highlights the limitations of traditional gender-based violence research, emphasizing the need for holistic approaches that incorporate women’s lived experiences, perceptions of risk, and self-protective strategies. The findings underscore the importance of Pacific-led research frameworks and advocate for inclusive, context-specific interventions to enhance women’s safety and well-being
