Women, Peace and Security in the South Pacific

AUTHOR(S)
Susan Hutchinson

It is important to consider Women, Peace and Security as part of a broader strategy for security and stability across the Pacific. Advancing WPS in the Pacific fits well with PACOM efforts to build stronger relationships in the region to advance common interests and address shared threats. In 2012, the Pacific Islands Forum released both a Regional Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security and a Human Security Framework. There is strong engagement from civil society across the Pacific on Women, Peace and Security. Regional cooperation, stabilisation and disaster relief activities could be used to reinforce Women, Peace and Security efforts.
