This paper summarises some aspects of the research conducted by Donald, Strachan and Taleo in 2002 called ‘Slo slo: Increasing women’s representation in parliament in Vanuatu’. The paper describes the candidacies of women in the May 2002 election: party or independence, campaigns, difficulties campaigning and the need for planning. The paper gives a short run down of the July 2004 election, which was scheduled for 2006; and updates about the Women and Government Policy, the implementation of which was stalled due to recommendations that were controversial.
