Gender inequality is a global problem and one that is deeply entrenched in the Blue Pacific as is evident in the poor representation of women in elected positions in parliament in our region and high rates of violence against women and girls. That said, there is widespread political commitment to bringing about gender equality and this chapter explores the regional and national commitments of governments as well as the role of donors and development partners in funding programmes in the areas of gender-based violence. It also provides an overview of promising Pacific-led approaches to addressing gender inequality that include services for survivors, engaging with the churches, providing programmes that include men and boys, and use of visual methods for advocacy and awareness. The chapter concludes by highlighting the challenges that COVID-19 has created for our success and the need to remain resilient.
