This paper summarises research commissioned by the Ministry of Education in Vanuatu in 2002. The analysis was titled ‘Gender Analysis of the Education Sector in Vanuatu’ by Strachan. This paper gives the findings, lists the participation rates of girls and gives a picture of women’s employment in the formal Vanuatu economy. It also discusses girls’ qualifications attained, examinations and scholarships. The paper concludes with recommendations for policy development and data collection.
